Blog #2

My contribution to this team is my critical thinking, leadership, and background in computer graphics. I believe that I can be an integral part of the team because I have the technical background to know what is and what is not possible technically with this project.

One of the biggest goals I have for this class is to gain hands-on experience in Instructional Design. Having not had experience with this before, I will be relying heavily on the other people in our class to bring their experience with them in order to help. I believe that feedback is very important to this process and I think the easiest way for us to communicate about the project is through the wiki that is set-up for us at this time. I think that it will be the easiest way for us to communicate and discuss ideas outside of the classroom.

I believe that our team is beginning to arrive at a vision of what this project will look like at its completion. It is something that we worked on last week and I feel it is something that will be continued this week. In my opinion, this project is very close to the mission statement we came up with last week. I think that it will be very easy to let this project get blown out of proportion.

Blog Entry #1 - Expectations and Learning

At the moment, my knowledge of instructional design is very limited. I would say that the biggest thing I will this semester overall is more about instructional design, not to say that you can’t always learn more about teamwork or working with partners, but I do feel it will be my biggest learning point. I feel that over the course of my undergrad and now starting my grad, one of the things I have been taught the most about is how to work on a team. Currently, I am a Resident Assistant at Wiley Hall. This requires a great amount of teamwork. While this position will teach me a lot, the biggest things I will learn about are teamwork and leadership. The capstone course in Computer Graphics (CGT411) is one of the few times in college that I partnered with community members. I remember that one of the most challenging things about working with community partners is that they seem to change their mind every 4-5 seconds, which means that it is harder to deliver a product to them.

The place that I am going to learn the most this semester is about the instructional design itself. I feel that this is my biggest weakness among the things listed below and I think it will also be the easiest to work on. I hope that by the end of this course I will have worked collaboratively with my group to implement an instructional design that the client can use. Since this is a real world example of what I will be doing later in life, I feel that this is going to be a very valuable experience for me.
